History
From the humble beginnings of Autotecnica in Casalmaggiore to becoming ATM: the history of Autotecnica Motori is a series of key milestones and ambitious projects that have become a reality. From 1977 to the present, driven by a passion for engines and racing, and always with an eye toward future challenges.
The Origins
Autotecnica in Casalmaggiore was founded by Edo Riboldi and Roberto Federici and has its roots in a deep passion for racing, as well as in the Italian automotive tradition.
The focus? Transforming street engines into race engines.
The clientele? Drivers and small teams from northern Italy.
Alfa Corse
The first real period of strong growth in Autotecnica’s history came in 1983 in the form of a partnership with Alfa Romeo that lasted until the late 1990s. The company’s experience and expertise were entrusted with the preparation of the Alfa Corse Turismo engines during what were the most successful years for both the category and the Italian brand competing in it.
Autotecnica Motori: A New Era Since 2008
2008 was a turning point that marked the transition to a new era. Edo Riboldi and Roberto Federici handed over ownership to Giovanni Delfino and Renzo Federici, who embarked on a profound transformation of the company, driven by ambition and vision.
The First Expansion of ATM HQ
In 2012, the volume and diversity of customers grew steadily, along with the number of employees who bring ATM’s engines to life every day. It was time to expand and renovate the headquarters, and under the leadership of CEO Giovanni Delfino, the iconic glass facade was created—a structure that is still recognized today as the northern gateway to Motor Valley.
Formula 4 and GT
At the new headquarters, the final design of the Abarth-ATM 1.4L turbo engine was developed, which has powered Tatuus-branded Formula 4 cars since the very first year. Alongside this, the first GT projects were undertaken in collaboration with major sports and luxury OEMs.
Joining Forces with Tatuus
In 2017, the Wise Equity fund acquired first Tatuus and then ATM, creating a single group that, a few months later, incorporated Breda Racing. This union of Italian excellence was led by ATM CEO Giovanni Delfino, with the aim of establishing a “one-stop shop” capable of bringing Italian automotive excellence to the world.
Formula Regional
After Formula 4, it’s time for Formula Regional and its 1,750-cc ATM-Alfa Romeo engine, which will take to the track for the first time in 2018, powering the Tatuus T-318.
The Korus Group and New Horizons
Ever since the first V6 ATM was fired up on the test bench, the brand’s history has never been the same. Its deep-rooted tradition of engine tuning has been complemented by extensive technical expertise, giving rise to increasingly compact and lightweight versions of bespoke powerplants—often in collaboration with prestigious partners such as McLaren Racing on their endurance racing campaigns in the GT and Hypercar categories. To make all of this possible, the company has expanded both its headquarters and its workforce. It’s an exciting story, lived at full speed at every turn, and one that now looks toward a future yet to be written, filled with new and more ambitious goals.
